Independent Study 2023// Bringing the Dutch Design Landscape into Future Spaces
During my design workshop with COMA studio in Amsterdam, I became heavily inspired by dutch design, specifically their deep roots in lettering and craft. These typographic experimentations are based on the work of Dutch calligrapher Jan Van De Velde. The extraordinary calligraphy skills of Velde are irreplaceable, however, the fluidity and humanistic way of addressing type can be translated into the future of type design.
The contemporary field of type design is still dominated by the western grid and glyph forms, therefore, it is important to question how type can be built in order to use tech as a tool to assist unique creatively rather then letting tech confine expression.

I created this glyph through examining old dutch calligraphic forms.
